ALLIED HEALTH OPPORTUNITIES | Allied Health at Providence
Allied health employees at Providence enjoy PT/OT opportunities, tuition assistance and continuing education opportunities. You can explore careers in allied health at one of our four entities:
Providence Heart Institute
Providence Heart Institute traces its roots back to the early 1970s, when Sister Mary Jacob, CSA - then president of Providence Hospital - committed Providence to lead the fight against South Carolina's number one killer, heart disease. Today, Providence Heart Institute is the premier cardiac care facility in South Carolina. Equipped with six catheterization labs, four surgical suites and leading-edge electrophysiology labs, the Heart Institute is consistently among the first to introduce new procedures such as MIDCAB (minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass), "off-pump" or "beating heart" surgery and drug-eluting stents.

Providence Hospital
Providence Hospital, located in downtown Columbia, is a 247-bed hospital founded in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity of Saint Augustine to minister to the community, in both body and spirit. The facility is best known for the expertise in cardiac care it provides through Providence Heart Institute, which serves as a nationally recognized referral center for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Cardiovascular care, however, is only one center of excellence at Providence. The physicians and staff at Providence also provide extraordinary care in a variety of other fields, including general surgery, orthopedics, internal medicine, ophthalmology, emergency medicine, nuclear medicine and related diagnostic services, rehabilitation services, and occupational medicine.
The hospital's lifesaving efforts are significantly enhanced by the Providence Life Reach helicopter service, the state's first hospital-based emergency helicopter program, which has transported nearly 10,000 patients throughout the Carolinas and Georgia since its inaugural flight in 1985.
