A Day for Sunshine and Fitness with Women in Mind

The sun shone brightly on a truly perfect day for our Second Annual Providence Heart & Sole Women’s Five Miler. More than 600 walkers and runners laced up their shoes in support of this women’s only event. We welcomed neighborhood walking teams, groups from offices and schools, and many mothers, daughters, sisters and best friends on this special day.

After the race, participants were welcomed at Memorial Park with red roses and treated to some very special refreshments, including chocolate-covered strawberries. The women made it a full morning, enjoying free massages, healthy recipes, blood pressure checks and the merchandise of our Health & Fitness Expo vendors!

The event again attracted several mother-daughter teams, and many first-time 3-mile and 5-mile walkers and runners, as well as participants for our wheelchair event. The many stories women shared with me that day about setting personal goals and making healthy lifestyle changes were inspiring. Overall, there was a feeling of camaraderie and accomplishment among women who wanted to do something good for themselves and share it with others.

I can honestly say that I can't wait until next year. Until then, here's to women and the power of a healthy lifestyle! Keep moving...Jeanna
